Improve your core strength
Pilates will dramatically improve your posture making you feel and look better and appear taller. Its creator Joseph Pilates was born in Germany in 1880 and spent his childhood fighting rickets, asthma and rheumatic fever. He was determined to become physically immune to his ailments and embarked on a study of yoga, meditation and different forms of exercise.

The Pilates method retrains your deep postural muscles to act as a natural corset. By combining this with concentration and deep breathing you gradually increase the intensity of each exercise through the use of specific arm and leg movements. Some exercises are done standing, some while sitting and others lying on a mat.

Pilates suits all ages and fitness levels from top sports people to office workers, gardeners and the retired. It is particularly beneficial for those with back pain, poor posture, stress incontinence, sports injuries and following pregnancy. As physiotherapists we can assess your suitability for Pilates and modify the exercises according to your needs. After an initial one-to-one assessment you can either join our small classes or continue one on one.
